Above is the map of our tentative route. We expect to be on the road at least August through the end of September.
Now, more about the "crew" of this voyage, or movie, or whatever you like to call it:
Jessica Lewis (Captain): Conceived in the wake of Mt. St. Helen's
volcanic eruption, Jessica has been born into the role of
catalyst. From the time she had her driver's license (and often before)
she was off in search of adventure, even if that meant going to the
Aryan Nations/KKK parade armed only with a camera so she could get
material
for a high school art project.
Jessica is currently a Junior at Western Washington University where
she is studying
Environmental Policy and Political Science. This year she was a
delegate in the caucus process for Obama all the way to the Washington
State Convention in Spokane this year. She draws from her experience
having worked with Washington Conservation Voters, American Hydrogen
Association, Idaho Dept. of Parks and Recreation, Idaho Fish and Game,
and as a free lance booking agent and promoter in the music and film
industry.
Olivia Lewis (First Mate): Olivia is proof that the curse that someone
will have a child just like them does come true (Thanks Mom/Grammy!)
Adventuresome, headstrong, passionate and loving are all words
commonly used to describe Olivia, or Liv for short.
Liv is a preschooler and veteran of many a road trip, including 3,500
miles in ten days last Spring Break. She writes her own musicals and
has some wicked good dance moves. At five years old she is like a
mountain goat rock climbing, and gives everyone heart attacks with her
ambitious mastery of a two wheel bike.
Gertrude "Betty" Panzerwagen (Vessel): Betty is the third
entity on our trips. Like many older German-made vehicles, she has her
own distinct personality. Betty complains when it is too cold, and
might be in need of orthopedic insoles. She is a well-loved 1983 240D
Mercedes with 318,000+
miles (500,000+ km) that has been converted to run on biodiesel and is
in the midst of surgery that will help her CV joint and as well as
restricting her diet to the healthier waste vegetable oil that has no
net carbon emission as well as lighter on the pocketbook. She is built
for comfort, not speed... and is the kind of girl you can be proud to
take home to momma.
Gear: Most of the work on the web and documentary will be done on a
MacBook that has been loaded with Final Cut and other related editing
and software along with Firefox. The film will be shot in widescreen
digital HD on a Canon Vixia HF100.
Subject: The rise of grassroots politics and application of green
technology and sustainability, yet will not ignore the day to day
stories of those making the film and of the ones that are met in the
course of this journey. The project will focus on case studies of
successful businesses, groups and ventures across America, as well as
interviewing notable members of our communities.
The experiences will be hands on and entertaining, because Jessica and
Olivia always seem to find themselves in the middle of an adventure
(ask Liv about the bear that licked her face in Redwoods while mom was
out bear-proofing the camp)... and adventure is probably what they
will find as they attempt to cover about thirty states in less then
two months.
Soundtrack: As veterans (aka survivors) of the music industry, Jessica and Olivia seek
to support and use unsigned and independent musicians and bands to
provide the soundtrack for both the video shorts and the full length
documentary. This is a great chance to get exposure! Contact us with
submissions or suggestions.
